All Minis from 1959 to 1984 with 10 inch wheels, except the Cooper and 1275 GT models, had drum brakes. It is possible to upgrade and convert the early Minis to disc brakes as well. The 8.4 inch disc brake assemblies used on all Minis after 1984 require 12 or 13 inch wheels although there are some special makes of 10 inch wheels that will fit the 8.4 inch disc brake assemblies.
We do not supply a complete kit ready built just to bolt on but we do supply the basic wearing parts and fittings that are required for a disc brake setup. If you were able to buy a complete kit from new just to bolt on it would be horrendously expensive. The best way is to buy some used units and renew the wearing items. That way you get the best of both worlds. You do not need to replace items such as the hubs and arms with new ones. These would be the most expensive of all the parts in the assembly because of low demand therefore creating short manufacturing runs.
Here are the basic requirements. Once you have obtained your used assemblies you will need to strip them and replace the essential wearing parts. You will need new brake discs and brake calliper seals. It is possible you may prefer to replace each brake calliper. You will need to replace the special brake disc studs which hold the discs and also the brake calliper bolts. You will need a new set of brake pads the spring kit for them and the anti-squeal shims. You may also need to replace the wheel bearings and the larger CV joints. A brake hose for each assembly will need to be fitted.
For the 8.4 inch disck brake converion you will also need to convert the hydraulics to dual circuit and we can supply the dual circuit brake master cylinder and the pressure relief valve that you need to use in conjunction with it. The two are connected by a conversion kit.
